Bellingham wine-maker Graham Weerts located an exceptional pocket of old, low-yielding Chenin Blanc bushvines. Excited by the intense, even-ripening and rich quality of the fruit, he vinified a limited volume of lightly-wooded, lavish and full-bodied wine with a well-rounded, seamless mouthfeel. The result was so good that Graham felt the wine deserved its own unique identity and created “The Maverick” concept.

Bodegas Cooperatives began producing red wines 10 years ago, under the guidance of their chief winemaker María José Sordo, many of which have already won several awards. This particular Tempranillo is made using modern techniques, which give it an intense purple colour. Classic Tempranillo notes of dark cherry and blackcurrant are prevalent on the nose, lifted by a hint of dried flowers and sweet spice. The palate is superbly balanced, the fruits of the forest flavours being perfectly complemented by soft tannins.

Zondernaam Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Stellenbosch, at MajesticWine
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a prime location adjacent to the celebrated Thelema Mountain Vineyards. Whilst the quality of this zesty Sauvignon is comparable to this famous winery, the status is not, and it is therefore aptly named 'Zondernaam' meaning 'no name'. Fortunately, the prices aren't comparable either, so take advantage.
